SHEILA CHAPMAN - a clematis grower and seller with many years experience. I first saw Sheila's clematis at Gardeners' World Live in 2005 and thought her display was stunning. I bought some plants from her then, have since bought more and have always been pleased with the healthy plants she has supplied. www.sheilachapman.com

THE UNIVERSITY OF HULL - An excellent database of clematis with an easy to use search facility and an A-Z listing of plants. www.clematis.hull.ac.uk

THE BRITISH CLEMATIS SOCIETY - This is a wonderful society of very informed people who are usually able to identify unknown clematis. If you want any detailed information about clematis this is the place to visit! www.britishclematis.org.uk

PLACES TO VISIT

BURFORD HOUSE GARDENS in Worcestershire hold a National Clematis Collection. Unfortunately when I visited these gardens they had been seriously damaged by flooding in the summer of 2007. Despite the damage the gardens were delightful, and had some lovely plants as well as clematis. In particular I appreciated the various Dierama they had, and some lovely trees. www.burford.co.uk

WOLLERTON OLD HALL is a delightful garden to visit (the house is not open to the public) in Shropshire. Made up of lots of little "rooms" there are many clematis to see here, as well as other plants of course. www.wollertonoldhallgarden.com

ARLEY HALL & GARDENS in Cheshire is another lovely garden to visit, and there are a surprising number of clematis scattered around, although sometimes you have to look carefully! www.arleyhallandgardens.com
